In approaching the theme of migration, Olgaç Bozalp explores its disparate, multiple and complex causes. Drawing upon his personal history as a migrant, Bozalp creates visual narratives that elaborate on the many stories and histories behind such choices, whether they involve forced migration in communities facing the rise of gentrification, fleeing from places of conflict, or simply pursuing self-expression and new opportunities — be they financial or existential.

 

Home: Leaving One for Another began in Bozalp’s hometown of Konya in Turkey, in collaboration with Raphael Hirsch. The images create a seemingly fictional portrayal of challenges and dreams, and the determination to reach new beginnings: a desire as old as humanity itself.
